Happy Friday from a Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Costa Rica Wedding Photographer ; )

Photo booths are having a moment, no doubt, and I’m certain they’re here to stay.  They are a super fun way to document the zanier moments of any event, a way to encourage folks to let loose and have fun in front of the camera.  My dear friend Eck Wheeler has a photo booth company that offers a new and superior twist to the equation.  Head on over to Ringlightman and find out what it is that makes his company so special! (Although I think the difference is clear in the photos above.  These are not photo strips, with tiny little files and photos).

Also, Ringlightman is having a ‘like’ contest on Facebook.  For the next two weeks, any new ‘likes’ on Facebook will be put in a pot for a drawing.  The prize is a fabulous ‘anti-portrait’ session.  So go to Facebook, like Ringlightman and enter to win!!  Liking is really, really good for you, and it’s even more fun when you might win a fabulous fine art piece!  (Oh, and I’m quoted in the anti-portrait section of the website, which is super flattering.  I don’t think I’ve ever been quoted before, aside from my sons, who love to remind me of my Mrs. Malaprop moments with alarming frequency.)

Next week I’m giving away a brand new copy of this book:

It’s great to be a ‘Natural Light Photographer’, but a lot of times nature doesn’t cooperate with our lofty goals.  This is hands down the best introductory guide to the science behind off camera lighting, and really any kind of photographic lighting.  I like everything about this book, from its accessibility to it’s exercises, but most of all I love the fact that to the authors, the best off camera lighting looks natural.  No ‘sportraits’ no unnaturally lit skies, hard lighting and over sharpening.  One of the best compliments a photographer can receive is that a photo looks like natural light when it’s not. This book will teach you how to do that.

I can’t bear to part with my copy, which is the third edition, so I’ll drop ship a new copy (the fourth edition)  to the lucky winner.  Be on the lookout Monday!

These actually make camping look fun.  As an avowed non camper (perhaps it was the Outward Bound trip where my entire group walked into a hornets nest) (Or the time I went rock climbing and was scraped across a wall turning my skin into hamburger) (Or the time I clung to a rock at a class 5 rapid after a capsize until I got hypothermia).  Aaaaaaanyway.  I’d go camping in one of these : )

Some pinners on pinterest I really like: Joanna Goddard, Grace Ormond, David Abel,Justina Blakeney.

An Umbrella Sky in Portugal.

Have a fantastic weekend!  Last weekend I was at Bay Creek for a lovely, lovely wedding, and this weekend I am at Christ and St. Lukes and the Town Point Club.  Then, I have a break, which is kind of great in the summer heat!

Oh, And I’ll be finishing up my post on Kara and Brandon’s incredibly lovely wedding next week.  Thanks so much for your kind words and ‘likes’ they truly mean the world to me.
