Monica and Rob’s lovely, intimate wedding at Virginia Beach’s One Fish Two Fish is coming soon! I swooned over Monica’s gown and can’t wait for you to see more of it.

Whew, what a week. (Aren’t they all like that? ) If you’re one of my five fans you probably noticed my site was down for a few days. Well, I decided to do crazy things like switch servers, repoint things and all kinds of stuff I really know nothing about, and ended up making my sites disappear. I admit I had some help, by some behind the scenes folks who were misinformed (by me, naturally). But really, what a mess. I was in a blind panic for a couple of days thinking I had lost www.eleisetheuer.com which has years of content. I’ve been blogging off and on for a really, really long time. So, you’d think I know better about switching things around, but nooooooo. I’m leaving it to the big brains from now on. Thanks to the folks who helped me with this mess, I’m eternally grateful.
News! I’ll have a new website and blog (dang ANOTHER blog, what is she thinkin’?) soon. Everything will be in one place. I’m excited about both, as I’ve been pretty light on the blogging the last few years (ahem) and have a TON of pretty stuff to show off, including weddings in Mexico, Costa Rica, New York, and all over Virginia and the Southeast. So stay tuned, I’m working feverishly, and am quite impressed with some of the stuff I’m going to show ; )
I picked my first tomatoes and eggplant this week. A thrill, for sure. And yes, it’s a camera phone photo.

What to do with all those tomatoes? Make tomato pie! Omit the basil for a truly southern tomato pie (sorry Paula). I’ve been making this for a long time, and first got the recipe out of this book:

Which is not a parody, but a real cookbook. Essentially tomato pie is a heart attack on a plate (there’s a lot of cheese and mayo in there) but it is soooooo good. Seriously good. It’s trendy now too. Restaurants all over Brooklyn are making ‘mater pie. They aren’t as good as one you make yourself ; )
Love this outfit. Love the glamorous granny aesthetic.
That’s gotta hurt. Or be very cold, at the least.
To continue the heart healthy trend, what does one have for dessert after dining on tomato pie? Why, a nutella, marshmallow and strawberry sandwich,of course!
Have a great weekend. I’m shooting a wedding at the Oceanfront Hilton. I’m not even going to bother saying ‘stay cool’. That’s not gonna happen. How about ‘stay happy, even when you’re melting’. xxoo-e

Sonya and David’s wedding took place at the gorgeous River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia. River Farm is the home of the American Horticultural Society, so I was in seventh heaven all day long. The spring like tone of this wedding, with it’s lush florals and gorgeous tablescapes made my romantic heart sing : )

Sonya was stunning in her gown. I looooooved the large flower at the empire waist. It certainly reflected the wonderful floral theme of this wedding.

There were gorgeous flowers everywhere!
The color pallet of the tables, so softly romantic and evocative.

The food at the wedding was spectacularly lovely. David is a chef and prepared all the menus. I love to take pictures of food so this was a special treat. The baby vegetables! The raw bar! The corn souffle! I’m getting hungry writing this post.

Subtle, classic, tasteful cupcakes.

Beautiful work, Eleise!
So beautiful….the flowers are indeed to die for:)

Last night I went to see Al Pacino speak at Chrysler Hall. Actually, it was more of an extemporaneous exercise a la ‘Actor’s Studio’ with an interviewer even, who is a professor at NYU film school, and audience questions. Unfortunately, the evening was marred by people screaming ‘Attica’ every chance they got and an enthusiastic woman two seats down from me who must have skipped her medication for several days because not only was she yelling at Mr. Pacino, she was having fervent conversations with herself.
She told herself to be quiet several times, but she wasn’t listening.
Despite everything (including my increasingly tense husband who was probably wondering if he was going to have to help wrestle the aforementioned world’s biggest Al Pacino fan two seats down into a straightjacket) I tried to listen to Mr. Pacino’s message.
He was asked to draw a comparison between acting for film and acting for stage and the metaphor he used was a high wire. In a film, the hire wire is painted on the ground, because you can always redo a scene, adding and subtracting what is needed to make the film work. There’s safety in the placement of that wire. In the theater, the high wire is in the air, and you have that one shot to make it work, so you’d better be ready. But the payoff is a special thrill that comes from having the talent and the ability to pull off a live performance.
Of course, this made me think of my job. When I shoot a wedding, I’ve got one shot to get it right. There are no redos, no chances to try a new approach. It’s an incredibly stressful job, as anyone who does it can tell you, but one that is exhilarating, addictive even.

I am obsessed with the ephemeral nature of Chris Parson’s Dew Gardens. I don’t have a lawn of this size, but if I did, I might try this magical thing. The designs evaporate with the heat of the morning.
Make this as soon as you can. It’s a classic recipe, and everyone who eats will fall at your feet and worship you. You have my word on this.
My friend Sam Hughes is getting ready to offer workshops for folks who want to learn how to use their cameras well. He is a wonderful photographer who started out shooting news, is a college professor with an MFA in photography and he slums it by shooting weddings too ; ) Check it out HERE.
Have a lovely weekend. I’m off as I’m helping celebrate my in-laws fiftieth wedding anniversary. I can’t think of a lovelier thing for a wedding photographer to be doing on a Saturday off in June : ) xxoo-e

Deanna and Aaron’s lovely wedding took place at the stunning Hermitage Museum, on the water in Norfolk. I was so flattered when Deanna asked me to photograph her wedding, as she is an accomplished photographer herself. The wedding was recently published in the Knot, and I’ve added scans of the spread below:

The day started as a beautiful garden wedding, and ended as a happy southern shindig, which is what happens at the best weddings : )
The Jangling Reinharts, one of my favorite wedding bands, kept everyone mightily entertained.
Deanna assembled quite an arsenal of wonderful vendors to bring her wedding vision to life. This attention to quality and detail really paid off, as her wedding has been published in the Knot, as you can see, and also on the popular blog, the Bride’s Cafe. How this happened is still beyond the scope of my comprehension but I am thrilled nonetheless! Impressive Deanna!!!!
Now, more photos of this lovely, romantic day……

Deanna purchased the garter on etsy. It is so beautifully made and unique.
Kim Porter enhanced Deanna’s natural beauty with wonderful makeup.

Deanna’s lovely ruffled and tiered dress is a Pronovias design from Maya Couture. Maya also designed a custom, couture veil for Deanna.

Vintage jewelry embellished each bouquet, and the combination of peonies, ranunculus, lambs ears and english roses is one of my favorites.
This charming memory board, displayed on old shutters, is a unique way to honor family and loved ones.
Leslie Hartig created the lovely florals, and Jill Brown of Sunkissed Events planned and coordinated the event. I love how the cake, from Cake Delights, mirrors the flounces on Deanna’s gorgeous gown.

I could go on and on about my love for tented garden weddings. This wedding was so fresh, lovely and personal it took my breath away.
I shot this wedding last summer, and since then, Deanna and Aaron have welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. Congratulations and much happiness to the three of you, you’re off to a great start!! xooxoxoxoxoxo-e
